Assassins Creed 2 Wins Guiness Record
Assassin’s Creed 2 has already taken home plenty of awards, but now it can add a new one to its impressive resume: a Guinness World Record. Ubisoft announced today that the game now holds the record for the most cover-featured video game. It was featured as a lead cover story on 127 different publications spanning 32 countries, between April 2009 and April 2010.
"Assassin’s Creed is one of our most well-loved brands," said Alain Corre of Ubisoft. "The worldwide interest for the brand, coupled with the energy and creativity of our press team made for a winning combination and I am proud of receiving this Guinness World Record."
Apparently Ubisoft supplied the data to Guinness themselves, and the record organization checked and verified it. We’re not sure how far back into the catalog Guinness was judging, however. To us, it seems like Street Fighter 2 would easily earn the title, based on its popularity and the greater presence of video game magazines when it was out. But then, it could have been disqualified by appearing as several different versions. Either way, Ezio holds the record now, and he’s daring another game to come along and dethrone him.
